Introduction
Katy (Murphy) Daly was born in the Pacific Northwest. Raised in an environment that encouraged creativity, Katy began writing songs and making artwork at a very young age. Using found objects and ephemera, she saw every day as a new opportunity to express herself creatively.
She discovered collage as a teenager, and spent hours in her room surrounded by paper scraps which eventually found harmony as complete images. She went on to study Art History at New York University, while continuing to create collages, small sculptures, and later jewelry. After graduating she accepted a position with a leading art publishing company in New York, where she has been able to work with artists, museums and galleries to create beautiful reproductions of their works.
Katy now lives in lovely Montclair, New Jersey surrounded by historic homes and gardens, which continue to inspire her.
Statement:
My art is a reflection of my devotion to saving the treasures of our past, of an American history that is disappearing. I believe that objects, architecture, and spaces hold stories that will be told if only we listen, rather than forsake them for the shiny and new.
Using images culled from vintage magazines, books, and greeting cards, there is often a historical reference within each work I create. In my art, mementos of bygone times are not relinquished, but rather given new life through their preservation and integration with those of the modern world.
